Have a great summer!

CAMBRIDGE, MA - JUNE 5: A graduating student ...

Hello everyone,

I hope each of you enjoyed the semester and learned many great things. It has been an odd semester for me and I hope this didn't hurt the class too much. After three long months, a screw was removed from my right ankle on Wednesday. Other hardware will stay forever, but the good news it that I can finally walk without crutches. I still get a bunch of swelling and am not encouraged to stay on my feet too long, but this is great progress. I plan to attend next week's commencement and hope to see many of you at graduation!!!

As for the cjnetwork experiment, those of you on the site gave it a good try. I am a little disappointed there were so few of you, although I didn't expect much after a long semester. I hoped everyone would try to be creative with their web skills and some of you accomplished that. You are welcome to keep experimenting but I know you have plenty to keep you busy this week.

Programs like Drupal, which was used to create this site, can be modified for many purposes. This program can be easily installed and run on a server, or shared hosting site like godaddy, but the initial learning curve is a bit steep. Once you get past the hard part the program can be easily modified to look and feel very different from what we have experienced in this class (e.g., check out http://critcrim.org). Many programs you will use as a justice professional use programs very similar to Drupal, or Moodle, to gather data into databases, so you may see familiar programs in the future.

Have a great summer everyone and congratulations to the Class of 2010!
